SWIM MEETS & RAIN
Swim Families,
Our practices are beginning this week in some cases if the coaching staff is available. Rains are always an area of caution for swim teams. Remember the Rule of Thumb regarding rain and practices or meets:
Teams can practice or host meets in the rain, however, lightning and thunder will cause 30 minute delays. Do not assume that if it is raining at your house that a practice or meet is cancelled. You must go to the swimming facility. Either the head coach--during practices or the Meet Referee at meets--make the final determination as to what will happen that day. I have been to several swim meets over the years where it rained, but we still pressed on because there was no lightning or thunder in the area.
Team Reps, be prepared for rain at a meet by doing the following. Use large, clear plastic baggies over the lane timer clipboards that are tall enough to hold a pencil upright and copy down the watch times. It works as I have done this before! Be prepared to whatever is thrown your way.....
